School House Canada Summer School Program
Our summer school program is designed to help students get the most out of the Alberta curriculum and the program of studies. Because we limit our enrolment, we are able to provide individualized instruction to each of our students.
Our program has been devised in such a manner that helps students to develop independent learning skills. Our unique 5 part lesson plans encourage skill acquisition, divergent thinking and critical analysis in each of the 3 major subject areas: mathematics, language arts (effective writing skills) and science.
Our school day is broken into two parts - a morning session and an afternoon session. The morning session starts at 9:00 am and goes until 12:00. The afternoon session starts at 1:00 and goes until 4:00 pm. Students may enrol in either session or both for a minimum of one week or for the entire summer consisting of 8 weeks. The following weeks are available:
Weekly Sessions
Week One July 4- 8 Week Five August 1- 5
Week Two July 11-15 Week Six August 8-12
Week Three July 18-22 Week Seven August 15-19
Week Four July 25-29 Week Eight August 22-26
Program Costs
The cost to enrol a child in a half day program is $165 per week. All supplies are provided for each child.
The cost to enrol a child in a full day program is $250 per week. All supplies are provided for each child.
All fees must be paid by cheque at the time of registration. Once a child is registered and his or her placement is confirmed, we are unable to provide a refund for a cancellation unless we are able to replace the child with someone on our waiting list.
Our Program
Mathematics: Our mathematics program has been developed to ensure that the child successfully masters the concepts of the Alberta curriculum. Each topic of the curriculum has been broken into specific objectives. Each child will be tested to determine his or her starting point for each topic. (This will be limited by the number of weeks in which the child is enrolled.) Parents will be given a copy of the evaluation and the program plan that is developed for their child. In addition, parents will receive a progress report at the end of each week along with a continuum of skills that need to be addressed or evaluated for the following week.
Effective Writing; Our language arts program focuses on the most important skill - effective writing. Depending on the student's ability, he or she will be taught how to write effective sentences and coherent paragraphs or essays. A wide variety of readings will be used to stimulate discussion and to springboard their writings. Students will begin a writing portfolio which will contain all their writing. The portfolio will form the basis for remedial application and at the same time demonstrate growth.
Science: Our science program focuses on taking science education beyond the "typical" classroom experience. It is designed to spark the child's interest in the world of science through exploration and discovery. Our program focuses on the three pillars of science knowledge: physics, chemistry and biology. The children will share in science discovery while being introduced to science concepts though hands-on experiments and activities. New activities and cutting edge topics will be based on student interests. The science program is designed to bring the joy of science to students at all grade levels.
Supervision: There is no early morning supervision of students outside the classroom. Parents are encouraged to drop their children off no sooner than 8:50 in the morning and 12:50 in the afternoon. Students should go to their classroom immediately upon their arrival. At the end of the day, parents must pick their children up no later than 4:05. So that students are not left unsupervised, parents who are late in picking up their children or who drop their children off early will be charged $10.00 for each 15 minutes in which they are early or tardy.
For students registered in the all day program, lunch room supervision will be available as well as a supervised play area.
Registration: If you wish to register, please complete the enrolment form and send it to us along with your cheque to the address noted on the form. You will receive an email acknowleding your application immediately and the placement of your child.
Location: The summer school program will be taking place in Spruce Grove at 410 South Ave.
